In Gangapur City, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, a horrifying crime unfolded when 65-year-old Kamala Devi from Sittaura village, Bamanwas, was attacked. The perpetrators first lured her and then violently severed both her feet to steal her silver anklets. Despite the brutality, she managed to survive the assault, highlighting both the cruelty of the attackers and her remarkable resilience. The event took place on the 8th of October 2025 and the primary suspects are already under arrest. The law enforcers are still examining the offence to find out other accomplices and track down the stolen jewellery.

The Attack: How It Happened

Ramotar Bairwa, a man who had earlier proposed work to Kamala Devi, approached her in morning of October 8. He convinced her to accompany him to Gangapur City in the promise of employment and food. His female accomplice, Tanu, was with Ramotar and assisted him to control the victim during the attack.

The two then later that night went to a secluded place with Kamala Devi towards Pipli ki Kothi. Tanu put her mouth over her and Ramotar strangled her without allowing her to scream. She had passed out and suffered severe trauma. By morning, Kamala Devi regained consciousness and discovered that both her legs had been severed. Despite the severity of her injuries, she crawled to the roadside, where she could finally seek help. One of the tractor drivers saw her and called the police at once. She was then rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, where doctors provided emergency care for her critical injuries.

Police considered the attack premeditated, noting that the severity and precision of the assault clearly indicated a well-planned action rather than a spontaneous act of violence.

Police Investigations and Arrest

The Police responded promptly when the daughter-in-law of the victim reported. Witnesses were questioned, the crime scene was investigated, and the movements of the accused were traced by police.

  • Ramotar Bairwa (32) was arrested. He had only just left Sevar Jail, Bharatpur, just a month prior and had a history of other offenses of this nature.
  • His accomplice Tanu was also arrested.

The investigators found out that the stolen silver anklets were sold to unknown individuals. The jewelry is under surveillance and police are trying to establish whether there is a bigger network which is involved.

A senior police officer said:

“We are pursuing all leads,” said a senior police officer. “The brutality of the attack indicates careful planning. We are committed to apprehending all involved parties.”

Victim Profile

Kamala Devi was a 65-year-old woman in Sittaura village who lived in Bamanwas with the family. She used to wear traditional silver anklets which were culturally important and precious. Her family spoke of her as a quiet and reliable woman who was popular in the society.

Police said she had no previous conflicts with anyone and the assault was all about the price of her jewelry. The case highlights how vulnerable there are women in their old age, particularly when the criminals play on trust and seclusion, especially in rural areas.

Community Reaction

The whole village was shocked by the attack. There was fear and anger among residents against the brutality of the crime. There were a lot of emphases put on the risks elderly women are exposed to in the country, especially when those who are ready to help have some vested interest.

One villager stated,

“We cannot trust strangers easily anymore. Elderly women are particularly vulnerable, and this crime could have been prevented with more vigilance.”

The case has led to the debate on raising awareness of the community and safety such as the night patrol and the community support networks of vulnerable residents.

Similar Crimes in the Region

This rape is part of a worrisome trend of elderly women in rural Rajasthan being attacked with jewelry:

  • Criminals often attract victims in the pretext of employment, food, or assistance.
  • Cases of assault, cutting of limbs and stealing anklets have been experienced in the past and the pattern has always been characterized by brutality.
  • When released offenders tend to repeat the same type of crime, this reveals loopholes in the rehabilitation and monitoring processes.

These trends demonstrate the necessity of increased law enforcement and neighborhood watch in the countryside.

Investigation Process

Police have concentrated on some main steps of investigation:

1. Victim Statements: Kamala Devi gave a detailed version of the attack and this led to the identification of the key suspects.

2. Background Check: Ramotar Bairwa had a history of offense, which made him a key suspect, and his release at a fairly young age was also a time-sensitive case.

3. Crime Scene Evidence: The police have taken footprints and fingerprints among other forensic evidence of the place surrounding Pipli ki Kothi.

4. Tracing Jewelry: Police officers are tracing the people who bought the stolen anklets as they can lead to other criminals.

5. Community Investigations: Police are questioning the neighbors to know whether the perpetrators were well known to the victim or the location where the attack happened.

The police stressed that investigations could be conducted in every single avenue to deliver justice.

Legal and Procedural Steps

The case has been filed in various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC):

  • Section 302 – Murder
  • Section 394 – Willfully inflicting pain in robbery.

The police are coordinating with the district administration to ensure that both the arrests and the investigation are carried out effectively. Moreover, the case has highlighted the need for stricter monitoring of repeat offenders and immediate legal action in situations involving extreme violence.

Safety Recommendations

The local governments and law enforcement have proposed some precautionary steps:

  • Older people are not supposed to travel alone, especially at night or to lonely places.
  • The communities are expected to establish local patrols, which will keep a check on suspicious activity.
  • Every offer of employment or help made by a stranger must be reported by the residents to persons of trust in the family first.
  • The government is also thinking of organizing awareness programs to inform the citizens about criminal behavior and protection.

These measures are supposed to minimize the threat of such crimes in future and enhance the general safety of the countryside.

Psychological and Social Impact

The consequences of such attacks are far reaching to the victims and the community at large. Residents of elder age can fear mingling with strangers and communities may develop anxiety.

Despite her severe injuries, Kamala Devi survived, which highlights the importance of emergency assistance and community awareness. Consequently, social workers and local non-governmental organizations are being urged to provide support and counseling to victims of violent crimes.

Conclusion

The Kamala Devi attack by Sawai Madhopur shows how weak the old women in the country are and how far criminals can go in order to steal precious goods. Although the police have arrested the primary perpetrators, they are still investigating to ensure that they bring every individual involved to justice.

The event raises more general concerns:

  • The necessity of community education and prevention.
  • Enhancing police surveillance on paroles.
  • Provision of fast medical response and support to the victims of extreme violence.

With the case being a dark reminder of the need to be cautious, verify trust and protect the community, particularly vulnerable groups in rural setting, the case remains a crucial reminder that authorities still need to continue investigation.
