Shubman Gill was not unanimously chosen for the Test captaincy. A PTI report on Thursday indicated that Gill’s sudden emergence had angered the ‘influential people who run Indian cricket’, but the BCCI chose him as the new captain and informed him about it. The report also stated that while Bumrah’s name could still come up in the discussion, the recent “extended meeting” between Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir in Delhi has almost confirmed him as the new captain. Gill is the captain of Gujarat Titans in the IPL, he has captained India in limited-overs.
